Navigating Seaton's Landscape and Nature Project
Supported by the East Devon National Landscape Fund
Jurassic Discovery has been awarded £3,697 from the East Devon National Landscape Fund to support an exciting new project: “Navigating Seaton’s Landscape and Nature”.
This funding will improve the Jurassic Discovery Garden by adding a number of interesting and educational features that will help visitors learn more about Seaton’s natural history and unique landscape on the Jurassic Coast.
The project has installed a geological timeline that helps visitors understand the story of Earth’s history over billions of years. It also connects the dramatic mass extinction of the dinosaurs, which is explored in the existing ‘Last Day of the Dinosaurs’ exhibition, with the hands-on fossil dig experience in the garden.
There is also new information about the Jurassic Discovery Newt Pond that shows how important amphibians are to the story of evolution and makes connections between ancient life and the animals that live in East Devon today.
A new stone-effect climbing area based on Goat Island will be an interactive play area for younger visitors. It will encourage them to explore while reinforcing the area’s unique geological character. There will be an explanation to help families understand the real-life inspiration behind the design.
In addition to these physical changes, the Jurassic Discovery family trail leaflet will be redesigned to include these new features. This will make the visitor experience more interesting throughout the attraction.
